WSPS CEO Recognized

(March 11, 2015) - Mississauga, ON - As this year's recipient of the Minerva Canada Education Award, it's not the prize, but what it stands for that is the greatest cause for celebration according to Elizabeth Mills, President and CEO of Workplace Safety & Prevention Services. The award recognizes contributions to advance health and safety teaching in Canadian universities and is presented by Minerva Canada, a non-profit corporation dedicated to improving business effectiveness and reducing injuries through safety management education.

"The true reward lies in planting the seeds of health and safety among tomorrow's leaders, ensuring they embrace it as part of their core values, so they are better prepared to prevent workplace injuries," says Ms. Mills who was recognized for her outstanding contributions as a health and safety ambassador in government, business and academic spheres.

Evidence shows that effective, productive and profitable companies are led by people who understand the benefits of safety, health and environmental management and are committed to it. "Starting that conversation early along the educational path contributes to building corporate health and safety intelligence among the leaders of tomorrow and is a fundamental cornerstone to building effective safety cultures," says Tony Pasteris, President of Minerva Canada.

"Elizabeth truly shares our vision and has over several years contributed to furthering the interests of students and professors alike, working closely with several universities on leadership programs - even reaching beyond the confines of her own organization to touch diverse communities across Ontario."

For example, she was instrumental in opening the doors for Minerva to participate in the CEO Health + Safety Leadership Network, a collaborative of corporate leaders committed to building a province-wide culture of health and safety.
